Welcome to the roller coaster business!

Hi, everyone!

Long time no see. I’m so sorry that I’ve not updated my blog for a month. There are some problems with my Internet marketing business. I did really well in October. My earnings got higher every day until I reached more than $1,000 a day for a week. I was very happy and went out to have good meals with my friends every week.

rollercoasterAnyway, there are no roads without bumps. It got decreased from more than $1,000 a day to less than $200 a day just in a day. I was so shock when I saw loss in my daily report, but every life needs to move on. I started checking to see what was wrong with my campaigns but found nothing. The amount of money and traffic I got were the same as in previous days. Also, the profitable keywords or targets were the same. So, I asked my affiliate manager what was going on with my account, but he said everything was normal and others could generate leads as usual. Anyway, a few days later, he sent me a top offer list that contained the offer’s name, conversion rate, and earnings per click. I found that the conversion rate of my top offers was much lower than they were in previous months, so I think those offers were out of trend.

So, I started creating new campaigns and tried to get back to where I was. But the thing was not good as I expected. Not only could I not find new, profitable campaigns, but my other top-performing offers expired every day. Some days, there was one offer expired before I went to bed, and when I woke up, I also found another two to three offers expired. This depressed me because I could make only twenty to thirty dollars a day profit while I had done $600-700 a day in the previous month.

This was the first time in many months I thought I needed to move out of my desk for a while and find other fun things to do. I felt my brain was too busy and I needed to free my mind, so I went to the book shop. I bought some biography books about people I admire such as Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, Woz, and another successful Thai businessman. I went to the coffee shop almost every day with these books and read them for hours. I found that my problems were very small compared to others. Many of them failed many times before being successful. This might have been the first time I failed in this year, but it was such a shame that I felt depressed.

Every business goes up and down every day. Not only Internet marketing but every business. It goes up and down like the roller coaster. Your revenue can go up to $1,000 a day and decrease to less than $100 just in one day. When you see your revenue drop, you don’t need to worry about it much. What you have to do is just figure out why it dropped and move fast to create new campaigns. Facebook always offers new functions and features to users because one rule that Mark Zuckerberg told his employees is, ”Move fast and break things.” You might see that Facebook crashed very often, and this is from the new experiments of his employees. So you shouldn’t worry much about the failure. Just keep moving fast!

I hope this blog post can cheer you up!

Hi Bank, yes, that’s so true. I feel you.
Offers are come and go, that’s disadvantage of cpa business. I’ve had a campaign that bring me $100 day in profit, but when the offer was pulled, I got nothing. Build new campaigns and so on.. that’s really frustrating.

Now I’m thinking about list building and CPS program.

Good post, you are right it’s like a roller coaster. The constant learning it takes is amazing, but one thing I think is good to the adapters is new sources of traffic are popping up all over the place and they to are like roller coasters but that is what the “gold” is I think in the future spotting them and using them the right way.
