My friends often ask me to help them make money as an internet marketer, but they’re never quite sure exactly what that means. It’s always difficult for me to explain to them what I do. They won’t understand if I say, “Hey I’m making money through PPV or CPA marketing.” Those are technical words in the internet marketing world. What I always tell them is that I sell someone’s products and get a commission.
Before answering the question, let me tell you what I did first. I started this business seven years ago. At that time, making money by placing Google AdSense ads and selling other people’s products on Amazon were the most popular internet marketing methods. I just purchased a script that generated tons of WordPress websites and placed ads. Then I started making money.
I didn’t need to do much research, because I just created the best websites I could and sat back to see which products sold well. My investment was small – just $7 for a domain name and $20/month for shared hosting. It was easy to make money in this business at that time.
I can’t recommend to my friends that they to do this any more. I quit using this approach a long time ago. Because Google often changes the algorithm of its search engine, I’m too lazy to adapt my website keep its ranking high.
That’s why I’ve fallen in love with paid traffic for a long time.
However, as we all know, the initial budget for using paid traffic is pretty high. For example, if you want a TrafficVance or LeadImpact account, you need to deposit a minimum of $1000. That’s big money for most people. I can help them reduce their training cost by teaching them my PPV Profit System for free, but they’ll still need some bucks to test their campaigns.
Although I might suggest that they sell t-shirts using Facebook ads, it still requires a big budget to test and find a winning design. Before I first found a design sold 2000+ shirts, I asked my designers to create more than 60 new designs. I spent more than $2000 for the design and ads. It still requires high budget and patience to find your first winner.
That’s why I don’t recommend that they start out using paid traffic (which is what I’m doing).
Yes, I think it’s getting more difficult, but it’s still possible to make a living from it. As I wrote in the previous post, you should focus on the evergreen market and try to create a system to make money. This is the method I’ve used for a long time.
I’m not interested in blackhat, or methods that allow me to make a quick buck. If you’re in this business, creating a system that generates consistent passive earnings is a much more comfortable approach in the long run.
If I would recommend one thing to people who want to start an online business, I’ll first ask: What’s your talent or expertise? There are many ways to make money from the internet, so you’ll do better if you take advantage of your existing knowledge and skill set. For example, if you’re good at drawing, you might sell stock photos or do full-time graphic design for people who need mobile app reskins. There is a BIG money in that field.
If you want to start affiliate marketing, I recommend that you first prepare a budget. Learn as much as you can about affiliate marketing before you spend your first dollar. In my view, the best affiliate marketing resource in the world is the StackThatMoney forum. The cost is high, but if you read every thread it’s worth the money. Don’t start looking for books to read, because most of them are already obsolete. The most up-to-date knowledge about internet marketing is on the internet.
Although affiliate marketing is getting more difficult, there are many other ways you can make money from the internet. If you’re a complete newbie in this industry, try to educate yourself about this business before you jump into the pool. Affiliate marketing is a good business, but today it’s much more difficult to make money using free methods. One more important thing: You need to figure out what you’re expert at, and use that knowledge to find a market you can perform well in.
To your success!
